Arriving home Draculaura ran to her room and flopped into her coffin with a defeated sigh. Her pet bat, Count Fabulous, flew over, screeching his concerns.
"Thanks Fab, you always know how to cheer me up." She gave him a kiss and he flew back up to the rafters happily.
Draculaura pulled herself up as she heard her iCoffin buzz. It was a text from Frankie.
"Hope you feel better soon ghoul! Smooches, Frankie. "
Replying back a quick thanks and a reassurance that she would be great by tomorrow, she knew she had to tell Frankie. If she didn't, she wouldn't be able to live with herself any longer.
"I'll tell her after school tomorrow, before the ghoul's night." She said to Count Fabulous who was napping in the rafters. He nodded and burrowed under his wing more, not happy at being woken.
Please Frankie, don't hate me. She thought closing her phone.
Halfway through the night Draculaura was desperately trying to stay awake as she finished her clawculus homework. But it was becoming quite a challenge. As her eyes slowly began closing, her iCoffin screamed waking her up. Picking it up, she saw it was a call from Jackson. Her heart leapt and she took a deep breath before answering.
"Hello?" she said, trying her best to not sound to giddy.
"Oh, hey Draculaura, it's me, uh, Jackson." He cleared his throat sheepishly, "I was just wondering how you were doing, and I was well, wondering if you could help me out?"
"Of course, I could help you, what are friends for? And I feel loads better, fangtastic actually, it's sweet you were concerned." Draculaura basically sang into the phone. Trying her best not to bounce up on down on her bed with joy.
"That's great!" Jackson said, and Draculaura could just picture him smiling that cute smile of his with his adorable eyes peering through his shaggy hair.
"Thanks. So what was it you wanted my help with?" She asked him as he paused uncertainly.
"Oh, well I know you're good at writing, since you write for the school paper, and I have this huge essay coming up, and I'm stuck. So think you could help me out with it? If you don't want to I get it, I mean you are prob-"He started to ramble so Draculaura giggled and interrupted his monologue.
"I would love to help you. I'll make sure it's fierce."
"Wow, thanks. You are really cool." Jackson replied, a hint of relief in his voice, "Well, I got to go, bu I will see you tomorrow at school right?"
"Yea, for sure. I will catch you in study howl. We'll talk."
"Cool, well bye Draculaura." Jackson replied,
"Laters!" And she clicked of as she heard the line go dead. Feeling so happy she thought she would float away if she let go of her coffin. Maybe liking Jackson was a good thing. Maybe Clawdeen was right. Frankie had been seeing Holt a lot more lately than Jackson, and since he did call her, maybe he felt something too. Maybe this wasn't as major as she thought. Plus as a bonus this would help her get over Clawd, who was still off limits until Clawdeen cooled off a bit.
Draculaura finished her homework then curled up in her coffin with Count Fabulous, and quickly fell asleep, dreaming of Jackson's smile the whole night.
School the next morning was a blur. Draculaura had arrived late and didn't have time to spill the details to Clawdeen about Jackson yet, so when lunch finally rolled around, Draculaura ran over to they're usual table and sat down next to her. Everyone else was still waiting in line for Creepateria food so she had a few minutes to spill.
"Clawdeen! You will never guess who called me last night!" She beamed.
Clawdeen nodded and smiled while Draculaura went into full detail of last night's conversation with Jackson.
"See, I told you he was interested." She said biting into her burger as Draculaura cringed and turned to her salad.
"Who's into Draculaura?" Cleo appeared out of nowhere arm in arm with Deuce, looking regal as always.
"Oh no one, we were just talking that's all." Draculaura laughed nervously. "It's nothing."
The couple sat down across the table, with Cleo eyeing Draculaura suspiciously.
Okay, I see
" She bit into her apple turning her attention to Deuce and dropping the subject.
Draculaura's shoulders dropped in relief. Clawdeen turned to her and gave her the, we'll talk later, glance as Frankie slid into the seat next to them followed by Ghoulia and Lagoona.
"I'm so psyched for tonight you guys!" She beamed. "My very first slumber party! This is going to be awesome!"
All the ghouls began to chat excitedly about the nights plans. Draculaura joined in, anticipating the party, and was caught up in all the chatter, she barely even thought about having to tell Frankie about Jackson. But just at that moment, he walked over to the table.
"Hey everyone," He smiled and waved letting go of his tray with one hand, "Mind if I sit with you?"
"No problem dude," Deuce said, "It'd be nice to have another guy to talk to while these ghouls go on about manicures and the likes. Cleo shot deuce an annoyed look but a quick kiss changed her mood and she smiled sweetly.
Jackson slid in next to Deuce and he saw Draculaura and smiled at her.
Swooning a bit she smiled back then took a sudden interest in her salad. Her spirits dropped a bit as he began to talk to Frankie about some Undead History quiz, but it didn't seem like there was any flirting.
Stay positive ghoul, don't psyche yourself out, she told herself mentally as she continued to watch Jackson and Deuce get into some conversation about casketball.
Draculaura joined back into the conversation of the best movies to watch that night, but all the while thinking over how to let Frankie know she was after the same guy she was. Yikes.
